Do you have what it takes?
Starting an on-line business is more than just purchasing a domain name and throwing up a website.
Any schmuck can do that. Truthfully, what is involved in the process is a lot of blood, sweat, tears and failure. You are going to fail over and over again, everyone who has ever made a living online has failed. If you can pick yourself up and learn from those failures, then you probably do have what it takes. You need to move past your failures and more importantly avoid making the same mistakes again in the future.
Your online business is not a hobby
Many people make the mistake of considering their online business to be a hobby. Sorry, but starting an on-line business is not a hobby. Making crafts or baking is a hobby. Your online business is serious, it is a way for you to be able to quit your day job and make an independent income away from "the man". No one will tell you what to do anymore when you have your own business, but you will need discipline.
Working with an online business means that you will need to stick to a strict schedule and regime.
One really good idea is to have a large whiteboard on the wall where you have the times of the day listed. Beside each time you should put something down that you need to get done. Take action, don't sit around and daydream. You may have to quit doing other things that are a waste of your time, like watching TV, playing video games or having a full social life.
Your family may not understand
If you have decided to quit your job and put yourself into starting an on-line business full time, your family may think that you are completely crazy. You will be under a lot more pressure to succeed, but this is the cold, hard reality of starting an on-line business. You have to tell your family that you are not "playing" on the computer and you will need them to leave you alone when you are at work, even if you seem to be 100% accessible.
Constant interruptions are not going to get you very far with your plans. You should ensure that your computer is separate from the area where your family hangs out together. If you need to, you should have your computer in an office, even if it is a closet. There needs to be a door that you can close so that you can think and get things done. Explain to your family that when the door is closed, you are at work and you are not to be interrupted.
You may have to downsize your home to be able to be mortgage free and have a lower cost of living to be able to work on starting an online business. Once you decide to do things like this, there is no turning back and you know that you have to work even harder at making your dreams a reality.
Take action - Hard work will produce results
Whatever it is that you are planning to do with starting an on-line business, you need to have a game plan. No matter how fantastic a product is that you are working with, it is not going to help you if it is sitting on your hard drive collecting dust. Review the product, read the PDFs if there are some, watch the videos, take notes. Do it all over again and make sure you know the product inside and out. Then, take action. Do exactly all of the steps that are described in the product and do them as they are explained. If you need to write articles, then set aside time each day when you will write them, and make sure that it is scheduled into your calendar.
Eventually, after working at your program for what seems like an eternity, you will see the results that you have been hoping for. When you make your first commission or earn your first money through your efforts, you will know exactly what it is that you have been working so hard for and you will be hooked. So if starting an on-line business is your dream, then get serious and make it a reality.
What sacrifices have you had to make when running your online business?
