Twitter has recently introduced a 'who to follow' feature which gives you suggestions of those whom you may consider following. A good way to increase your Twitter stats when it comes to "following" others, but what about increasing the chances of people following you?

This is where Twitter directories come into the picture, like you list yourself in phone directories, similarly in the virtual world you can list yourself in Twitterectories.

Twitter Directories makes it easier for you to associate with people who share your interests or niche, the algorithm behind these directories helps you bag more followers.

When you list yourself, the directory will ask you to submit 3-5 categories, tags or keywords and accordingly creates your bio. Most of these twitterectories also help you look for others for you to follow.

Below is a list of 5 such directories which are incredibly easy to use and are very effective too.

We Follow

Wefollow.com is a simple directory created by the founder of Digg.com, Kevin Rose. It allows you to add 5 tags to your profile, it then bifurcates these categories in its homepage making it easier for users to find you based on the categories that you tag yourself with upon registering. It not only brings people to you but also takes you to them.

Twellow

The 'Twitter Yellow Pages', is created by the producers of WebProNews. It is a great tool for finding new followers and discovering Twitter users. When you click on the 'Register For Free' button, it will ask you to enter your Twitter username and password (rather than directing to Twitter), and like any other directory, you enter keywords (up to 10) according to which you wish to be categorized on the site.

Just Tweet It

Another Twitter directory with a lengthier procedure to register for the site. Once you enter your username and email id, it will email you your password with a link to profile editor page and you can then fill in your further information; you can also change your password from this page. Once done, head to the homepage, where you will see a drop down box on the top right, where you can choose the categories for your listing. For each category, it will ask you to fill in a short bio; you can list yourself in maximum 5 categories.

GeoFollow

This is a location based directory, it primarily categorizes users based on their location; but you can also list up to three categories with your profile. Users can find you based in your country, state, city, zip code or tags. Geofollow also makes it possible to follow people directly from the site, apart from sending direct messages, replying and even bulk following (based on location).

TweetFind

This is another very useful and vast Twitter directory which aims to "Bring Together Businesses & Consumers on Twitter". This is a live directory that primarily focuses on entrepreneurs and businesses, when you register yourself, it provides you with a massive list of categories for you to select and also allows you to tag up to five categories to your profile. It also has a very interesting feature called 'related users' which automatically offers suggestions based in user's personal profile and search history.

So, go ahead and get yourself listed in these directories which not only help in increasing 'your' following on the largest micro-blogging site, but also let you discover new twitter users based on what you are looking for.

Are you a part of similar twitter directories? Do remember to share your opinions or suggest some more directories that are as useful as the ones listed above.
